‘Dr Doctor’ Miriam gives hypnotherapy the thumbs-up
Aha! On the back of yesterday’s post about Lily Allen’s onging championing of hypnotherapy for weight loss and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas’ use of hypnotherapy for making and maintaining changes in her life, here we have ‘The Nation’s Favourite Doctor,’ Doctior Miriam Stoppard, talking about hypnotherapy. I am so excited.
I remember when I was a young girl that my sister and I had a book by Dr Miriam that was called something like ‘Every Girl’s Health Bible’.. or some such title. (It is probably long out of print now. I couldn’t find any reference to it oin her web site.)
Anyway, the importance of Dr Miriam Stoppard writing in this article in The Mirror about the many benefits of hypnotherapy is that she is such a stalwart of British popular medicine, a household name, a respected and beloved guardian of the UK’s health.
And in her article she says that ’she used to be a sceptic’ about hypnotherapy until her own personal experience of self-hypnosis changed her mind.
She says: ‘I took part in a TV programme where pregnant women were taught self-hypnosis to help them sleep. Determined to prove it didn’t work, I tried it out myself at home – and promptly dropped off. Now I use it every night.’
I love that!
She also provides some beautifully accurate descriptions of what hypnosis actually is for her Mirror audience, which is refreshing to read.
She then goes on to talk about the use of hypnotherapy in pregnancy and birth, the treatment of insomnia, IBS and cancer-related symptoms.
Thanks for the thumbs-up, Dr Miriam!
