Happiness is hypnotic

How was your weekend?

I had a lovely one, visiting my very special friend Sarah in Manchester, spending some time with Tom and on Sunday airing the entire house in the spring sunshine, cleaning and painting and cake-baking and all kinds of good things.

Don’t you just love that exhausted feeling that comes from achieving lots of different tasks, feeling productive and busy and useful?

Sometimes, I think that the very best therapy of all is to get outside in the fresh air and get my hands dirty. I never quite have the same feeling at the end of a day spent in front of my computer as I do when I have been gardening, cooking, filling vases with fresh flowers, painting the bathroom walls, etc.

It’s good to do something that gets me moving and shifts my focus to the completion of simple tasks, to those things in my life that I am grateful for, to what I already have rather than what I want to have, to what I can achieve right now rather than what I have not yet done or need to remember to do.

And I have been thinking that the people with whom we choose to spend our time can have such an influence on how we feel. My friend Sarah is one of those truly lovely people who just makes other people smile. It is infectious. I just love spending time with her.

Yes, the company of good friends, simple tasks, fresh air and, of course, chocolate cake like the one that  have waiting in my kitchen for the visit of another good friend of ours. What more could I possibly want?  ;-)
