The truth and the hype of hypnosis
Useful article in Scientific American looking at hypnotherapy as 'a real phenomenon with a variety of therapeutic uses' including in pain management, hypertension and irritable bowel syndrome. The conclusion, however, that alcoholism and addiction 'do not respond well to hypnosis,' does not seem to be based on any evidence. In fact, hypnosis has been used to huge success in this area in recent years. See the article below for an example.
