What to expect from clinical hypnotherapy:
Whilst you sit in my very comfortable chair, I will guide you into a safe and controlled state of total relaxation.
The state of clinical hypnosis is, quite simply, a state of more relaxed but also highly focused awareness in which your subconscious mind is more receptive to positive suggestion. It’s the kind of relaxed awareness in which you can more easily access and reconnect with your own inner resources.
Some people describe it as the best relaxation they have ever had!
Hypnotherapy is not about going to sleep, ‘going under’ or being controlled by the therapist
Let’s dispel some myths. Contrary to what stage hypnotists might have you believe, hypnosis is not mind control. You will remember everything and you will have total control over everything that happens in the session.
Hypnotherapy is definitely not like being asleep either. Let’s face it. Would you really pay to come and see me so that you could just sit in a comfy chair and fall asleep? I don’t think that would be very useful to you. (Although, of course, if getting a good night’s sleep is a problem for you, hypnotherapy will definitely help you with that.) But in the hypnotherapy session, you will be aware of everything that is happening and you will not be asleep. You’ll be working with your mind and body in a way that enables you to make deep and lasting changes.
Hypnosis is a very natural state of mind and body
You might be surprised to know that we each move in and out of a ‘trance’ state of consciousness many times in any one day. If you’ve ever found yourself driving home on ‘auto-pilot’ with no recollection of the last few miles, or if you’ve ever wondered just exactly how long you’ve been standing under the shower, then you’ve already experienced the power of your subconscious.
Perhaps you’ve become really absorbed in an activity – watching TV, gardening or a good book – only to realise that you’ve lost all track of time? These are all examples of a kind of everyday hypnotic or ‘trance’-like state.
Gentle, safe, controlled relaxation
Hypnotherapy works with this natural state of consciousness, helping you to experience deep mental and physical relaxation and allowing your inner resources – those parts of your mind that know how to solve problems and alleviate symptoms – to ‘float’ to the surface.
Where there may be deeper, underlying causes of a problem, I can help you to uncover them and then to process and reframe them positively.

I have worked with many, many people who were worried that they might not be able to ‘let go’ and relax.
