Hello. I’m Sophie and I’m a writer.
My first novel The Dress, the first book in the Everyday Magic Trilogy, rose to the Top 5 in the Amazon Kindle UK charts in 2011 and remained in the Top 10 for several months. I published the second book in the Everyday Magic trilogy, The Dream, in the autumn of 2012 and the third book, The Glass, is due out this summer.
I’m also the author of the novella Ruby Slippers.
My short collection of poems, Refugee, was published by Salt Publishing at the end of November 2011. (You can download a Kindle version here.)
I also run e-courses and workshops in aspects of writing and creativity.
I’m passionate about the connections between our creativity and our general wellbeing. Writing and journaling are the tools that I find most useful in my own life. My notebook or laptop are where I go to think things through, find meaning amid all the chaos or simply record the small, daily pleasures that might otherwise pass me by.
Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked as a therapist and coach specialising in working with mindfulness and creative personal development techniques. I spent several years researching the use of writing in health care and my doctoral degree (DPhil) from the University of Sussex developed a model for the use of writing in health care and personal development settings.
I live in beautiful North Yorkshire in the north of England with my partner and baby daughter. I like swimming outdoors (when the Yorkshire climate allows) and long walks in the local countryside.

Hi Sophie,
Just fell in love and finished The Dress. What a fabulous find on Amazon and I’ll be recommending it to all my friends. I will be downloading Ruby Slippers next.
As a writer hoping to self publish on Amazon and fellow York native I am inpired by you. CONGRATS on the chart climbing. Meanwhile, I’m interested in the workshops.

Mandee, thank you! Thank you so much for reading and I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed The Dress. I loved every minute of writing it. And I’m now working on a spin-off with Ella and Fabbia and a host of other characters – and plenty of ‘everyday magic.’
It’s been a very exciting few days and I’m so grateful to all my readers. And go for it with your book! If you’d like me to send you details of Word Sauce e-courses, just let me know.
