'It was a unique, very personal experience. I am normally a sceptic about these things but it was definitely worth it.'
Alison Wytchwood, Yorkshire Evening Press, July 21, 2007
And I don't mean flopping in front of the TV.
I'm talking about deep relaxation of your body and mind.
These days, most of us have increasingly busy and pressured lives, and we have the headaches, backaches and background feelings of anxiety to show for it.
A certain level of positive stress is good for us, helping us to rise to everyday challenges and get things done. However, over time, if we have a tendency to accumulate surplus stress and tension in our bodies, it can begin to surface as panic attacks, intrusive thoughts and even illness.
When you don't have a lot of time for yourself, time to spend simply relaxing and noticing your thoughts and feelings as they arise, you can all too easily become dissociated from your emotions. Perhaps you're in the habit of shelving your problems for some later date when you'll have more time to deal with them. But then that time somehow never seems to arrive and you end up feeling more and more dissatisfied, unhappy and frustrated. Sound familiar?
If you haven't relaxed properly for years, sometimes it's very difficult to 'let go' of stress and tension. This is where hypnotherapy - and self-hypnosis techniques - can be particularly valuable. The more you practice some kind of deep relaxation technique, the easier it becomes to take a quick five-minute 'power-relax' in the middle of the day, or wind down and get a good night's sleep.
I specialise in helping people to let go of stress, whether it's the stuff of everyday living, work and family, or the fall-out from traumatic events (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). In addition to helping you with specific stress-induced problems through hypnotherapy treatment, I will work with you to help you to look at the whole balance of your life, assessing your current stress trigger points and developing a practical plan to help you to feel calm, energised, confident and fulfilled.
And if you think therapy has to be long, serious and hard work - think again! I believe that it can be creative, full of humour and fun!
