A way to calm anxiety through a very simple creative practice

There’s something so satisfying about playing with my brush and these, my new favourite colours.

I’ve come back to this practice, over and over again, at various points in my life, usually when things feel a bit overwhelming. Too many words, too many feelings, too much noise in my head.

Making these circles brings me calm, focus, an awareness of my hand moving, in rhythm with my breathing, over the paper. Just thinking about combining colours and making different textures and sizes is absorbing and soothing.

In fact, this is where my spiral writing practice began – with watercolour swirls that I began to write around.
